The Heart of the Arts Academy

Code of Conduct

Schools are set in place to help students achieve or exceed their potential in order to be successful in society. Students are expected to strive for their own personal best, while keeping an appropriate attitude and behaviour.

The Heart of the Arts Academy’s Code of Conduct was set in place by staff, students and parents with the intention to establish a common ground of rules that everyone alike were in agreement to follow. This Code of Conduct applies to everyone within our facility such as staff, students, parents, volunteers, guardians and visitors whether they are on school property, or outside of school on a field trip or other outing.

Rules:

Our staff instills a lot of trust in our students, and therefore has minimal, yet nonetheless important rules for students to follow.

We expect students to:

·         Be respective of our building and each others property

·         Be sensitive to the feelings of others

·         Realize that students might have different ways of learning

·         Respect other peoples’ past experiences

·         Be open to new forms of art and expression

·         Demonstrate honesty and loyalty

·         Treat everyone equally

·         Respect religions, races, skin colour, gender, clothing, speech

·         Attend school regularly and be punctual

·         Actively participate

Materials:

Students are expected to treat materials such as paint brushes, paint, props, and even musical instruments with the utmost care. Failure to do so will result in a warning, or possible suspension.

Respect:

As staff and administration from The Heart of the Arts Academy, you can be assured that you will:

·         Be treated fairly and equal with all your peers

·         Have your opinion and thoughts viewed without the threat of being mocked or disregarded

·         Work in a safe environment

·         Have access to school equipment like computers, and other forms of technology that contributes  to curricular and co-curricular activities

·         Be able to participate in many different curricular and extra-curricular activities from cultures worldwide

 Our Motto:

Our school motto enforces the beliefs of our school: “Express the inner you.” Its simplicity is used to inspire our students and prove to them that they can achieve their potential. It has been selected because the words create a subliminal message of unity. The students at The Heart of the Arts Academy come from different countries and speak different languages, but these words create the same meaning and have the same impact on students regardless of their culture and/or religion.

Differences:

When students come from many different countries where they experience different variations of wrong and right, we acknowledge that conflicts can and most likely will arise from unfamiliar differences. Our staff realizes this also, and continues on a regular basis to highlight these differences to educate students.

Dress Code:

It is realized that students come from countries all over the world and that in those countries, clothing expectations vary. At our school, students are expected to dress appropriately, as it is a learning environment.

It is expected that students:

·         wear clothing that is non-offensive or revealing

·         refrain from wearing headwear of any kind which includes bandanas, unless it is for a religious purpose

If a student dresses inappropriately, they will receive a warning. If the problem persists, the student will be suspended.

Musical Devices and Cell phones:

It is important to communicate with friends and family via cell phones, however during school hours, all electronic devices that include but are not limited to cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices are expected to be turned off so that they are not a disruption. Failure to comply will result in a warning and possible suspension, as well as the device being taken away.

Bullying:

When a student experiences or witnesses bullying in any form they are encouraged to report it immediately. We guarantee the student’s anonymity and that the culprit will be suspended or expelled.

Drugs, Alcohol, Weapons:

DRUGS, ALCOHOL, and WEAPONS are not tolerated in our building. Students found in possession of any of these three things will be expelled. We believe that drugs, alcohol and weapons prevent students from reaching their potential.

If there are multiple or persistent infractions the student will be requested to leave the school. Our school is a privilege and should not be abused.
